Reports
Generate, run, and manage reports built from report templates.
Reports are a primary output in Sovos Intelligence. They let you compare, validate, and analyze your tax data across Sovos products and time periods.
All license types can run existing templates and export results. Creating templates and custom reports, and cross-source reconciliation, are only for Enterprise. See License types.
Reports are generated from report templates. A template defines the analysis and its parameters. Each time you run a template you create a report (a run) using the parameters you choose, such as period and country. A template can be run many times, and every run is saved so you can revisit it. Reports run on demand when you trigger a run yourself or through Insights.
Report layouts
Every template uses one of three layouts. The layout you choose must match the structure of the query you attach to the template:
- Basic table
- One table from a single-statement query. Use it to list or summarize one source, for example, invoices or a VAT summary for a period.
- Cross-check (Enterprise)
-
A reconciliation view built from a two-query
#[MATCH]query. Use it to compare two sources and find where they match and where they don't, for example, SAF-T against VAT Filing. - Side-by-side
- Two queries shown in parallel, without matching. Use it to view two sources together when you don't need to reconcile them.
See the Query and reconciliation reference for query structure.
Pre-built and custom templates
Sovos Intelligence includes pre-built standard templates you can run right away (see Standard report templates). On Enterprise, you can also create custom templates from your own queries (see Queries) or with Agentic Reporting (see Insights).
Build a custom report, end-to-end (Enterprise)
On Enterprise you build a custom report in three stages:
-
Create a query that returns the data you need, adding parameters for the values that change at run time (such as period or country). See Create a query.
-
Create a report template from that saved query. The template fixes the layout: basic table, cross-check (reconciliation), or side-by-side, and defines the parameters a user sets each time the report runs. See Create a report template.
-
Run the template to produce a report, then review, comment on, and export it. See Run a report from a template and Work with a report.
Alternatively, let Sovi AI build the query and template for you from a plain-language request. See Create a report with Agentic Reporting.
Statuses
Reports track progress at two levels: report-level status and row-level status.
The report-level status includes an automated group and a user-selected group.
- Automated status
-
The system moves the report through these statuses automatically, in sequence:
- Not started
- The system just created the report and queued it to begin generating.
- Generating
- The system is loading the report's data automatically.
- Rule validation not started
- The report finished loading data and is waiting for its reconciliation rules to run. This status only appears for templates that include rules. Templates without rules skip straight to Ready to Review.
- Processing
- The system is applying the report's reconciliation rules automatically.
- Failed
- Something went wrong while the system generated the report. This can happen at any of the four automated steps above. If you see this status, retry the report or contact support.
- User-selected status
-
After a report reaches Ready to Review, you can move it between these statuses freely, in any direction:
- Ready to Review
- The system has finished generating the report and, where applicable, processing its rules. The report waits here until you take action.
- Work in Progress
- You are actively reviewing or reconciling the report.
- Completed
- You have finished reviewing the report. This is the terminal status.
- Row-level statuses on individual records
-
-
Open
-
Matched
-
Known Exception
-
Resolved
-
See Reconciliation for the row-level detail.
