Upload data

Upload your own external data as a .csv file through the Data Upload connector.

  • The file must be a .csv file. The system determines the file type from the filename ending in .csv (case-insensitive). A .csv filename triggers schema conversion and validation. The upload pop-up doesn't accept other file types.

  • The filename may contain only letters, numbers, underscore, hyphen, dot, and space (pattern ^[a-zA-Z0-9_\-\. ]+$).

  • The uploaded columns must match the target table's expected schema. Missing or extra columns, or match-field mismatches, cause the load to fail.

This is available on Enterprise, through the Data Upload connector, to Organization Admins and Collaborators. Uploading external data is an authoring action.

An upload template is required. You pick a template in the pop-up, and it ties the file to a specific target table. Your Sovos team configures templates and their column mapping per target table during implementation. If no template exists, the pop-up shows You have no template for data upload yet. Contact your Sovos administrator.

  1. Select Connectors, then Upload data (or open the Data Upload connector).
  2. Select Upload files to add your .csv file by drag and drop or browse.
  3. Choose Select template to select an upload template, which ties the file to a specific target table.
  4. Choose Select company to set the scope. You must select an organization; a company is optional. The system rejects uploads to system tables.
  5. Select Next to validate and import, then Upload.
  6. Check the result in Sync Logs.
Results appear asynchronously, not as an immediate response.
    • A success shows a records-loaded count.

    • A failure shows a message such as:

      • Column mismatch (with the missing or extra columns)

      • Match-field mismatch

      • Table not found

      • Parameter validation failed

      • Temp-table load failed

      • Upsert failed

      • Data-load failed

Uploads are idempotent. A file already ingested is rejected as already consumed. To re-upload, rename or change the file. Ingested rows count toward your organization's data-object volume (see License types and Glossary).

Your implementation template and target table define:

  • The exact delimiter

  • Text qualifier

  • Character encoding

  • Header-row requirement

  • Accepted date and number formats

  • Any file-size or row count limits

Obtain the exact template spec from your Sovos implementation team.

Note:

You can also upload data through the API. API upload is covered in the separate API reference.
