Manage expiration periods

Learn how to set up and manage expiration periods for exemption certificates in CertManager.

Expiration periods let you define how long exemption certificates are valid by state or province and reason for exemption. When you create an exemption with an effective date and state or province but no expiration date, CertManager automatically calculates the expiration date by adding the expiration period to the effective date.

CertManager first looks for an expiration period that matches the exemption's state or province and reason for exemption. If CertManager doesn't find any matches, it uses the default expiration period for that state or province.

With expiration periods, you can also filter exemptions by expiration status and email customers about expiring and expired exemptions.

Important: Adding or changing expiration periods does not overwrite expiration dates for existing exemptions. Changes to expiration periods are only applied when you add a new exemption or update an existing exemption.
