Make corrections
Find out how to make corrections after transmitting.
If a payer, recipient, or form you previously transmitted to the IRS has an error or incorrect information, you need to amend it and send the updated record to the IRS. This process is called making a correction.
Correct a form
Learn how to correct forms after they have been transmitted to the IRS.
- Go to Forms on the side menu.
- Use the tabs and quick filters or search to find the form, then click the form's row.
- Click into the boxes to change the values. Then click Save.
- On the pop-up, click Mark as correction.
- If more forms need to be corrected, repeat steps 1-4 until all forms are marked as corrections.
- Go to Print on the side menu and click Create print files.
- Click Corrected and follow the steps in the article on printing to print the forms.
- Go to on the side menu and click Create Transmittal.
- In the Federal forms section, select Corrected and follow the steps in the article on transmitting to transmit the forms to the IRS.
Correct a recipient's name or TIN
Learn how to correct a recipient's name or TIN after you have transmitted their forms to the IRS.
- Go to Recipients on the side menu.
- Use the tabs and quick filters or search to find the recipient, then click the recipient's row.
- Click into the name or TIN field to edit it. Then click Save.
- On the pop-up, click Mark as correction.
- If more recipients need to be corrected, repeat steps 1-4 until all recipients are marked as corrections.
- Go to Print on the side menu and click Create print files.
- Click Corrected and follow the steps in the article on printing to print the forms.
- Go to on the side menu and click Create transmittal.
- In the Federal forms section, select Corrected and follow the steps in the article on transmitting to transmit the forms to the IRS.
