Register products in Minnesota
Learn about the product registration process in Minnesota.
Which products to register
In Minnesota, you will need to register:
- Wine
- Malt and beer
- Spirits
You will need to include the following information for each product you register:
- ABV
How to register your products
- If you are registering a new brand, register your product as a New Brand.
- If you are registering a new size under a previously registered brand, register your product as a New Brand. New varietals, flavors, and beer brands must all be registered as a New Brand. For example:
- PRO Vodka and PRO Vodka Pineapple should be registered as separate brands, even though PRO Vodka is the overarching name.
- PRO Chardonnay 375 mL and PRO Chardonnay 750 mL should each be registered as New Brands.
- PRO Pinot Noir and PRO Chardonnay should each be registered as a New Brand.
- If you make changes to the ABV or graphics on a product or label, register your product as a Revision. When registering a revision, you will need to enter the previous approval number or the registered product's code. You can find this on Minnesota's active brands site.
If you are registering a gift package, combo, or value added package, you will first need to register each included product separately as a New Brand.
Once the individual product registrations are approved, send an email to agepromoadvrev.DPS@state.mn.us and include details on your combo, gift package, or VAP.
State fees and approval time
Registrations are valid for three years in Minnesota.

In addition to the state fee, you will also pay a $5 technology charge.
Minnesota typically approves or rejects registrations within three business days.
License information
You will need to enter your four- or five-digit Minnesota license number.
Distributor information
Distributor information is not required as part of label registration in Minnesota.

Renewals
Registrations are valid for three years in Minnesota, while licenses are valid for one year. Renewals run throughout the year and vary depending on your license's expiration date. You can renew labels online 60 days before the expiration date of your license. Label registrations and licenses expire on the same month and day. You will renew registrations on the MN renewal portal.
It is the licensee's responsibility to renew active brands you have registered in Minnesota. Check out the state's active brands site to keep track of registrations and renewals.
More information
If you are a brewer or brewpub and you do not distribute or package your products, you must still upload a label image. You can upload either:
- A keg collar, properly labeled, showing your company's information and the beer information (most popular option)
- An image of your menu board, serving tank, or tap handle, properly labeled
