Which product types to register
In Kansas, you will need to register:
- Wine
- Spirits
- Beer/Malt/Cider
How to register your products
- If you have a new brand, register your product as a New Brand.
- If you have a new COLA under an existing brand, register your product as a Line Extension.
If you have a variety pack or combo, register it as a VAP/Combo. Included products need to be previously registered with the state.
- If you make changes to a product or label, register your product as a Revision.
- Kansas considers any registration that includes new products to be a line extension, not a revision, even if the label is already actively registered. You must register new case configurations of previously registered products, but Kansas will not charge a state or technology fee for these registrations.
For malt products, you will need to register a Revision if you change the size, ABV, container type, bottles per selling unit, or selling units per case.
For wine products, you will need to register a Revision if you change the vintage, size, ABV, or bottles per case.
For spirits products, you will need to register a Revision if you change the size, ABV, container type, or bottles per case.

Some registrations are approved upon submission, while others require review. If you have not received approval or a request for supporting information within three days, leave a comment for the state administrator on your registration, or reach out to the state.
License information
License numbers in Kansas are typically formatted as either an 11 or 4 digit number. All new license numbers are 4 digits. When entering your license number, exclude any dashes.
Distributor information
Distributors in Kansas are all labeled as beer, wine, or spirits. You should only be able to select a distributor that matches the product type of the COLA being registered. Some Distributors are grouped together (by design). Selecting one distributor will automatically transmit the entire group to the state.
Renewals
Renewals in Kansas run for one month, during June. Renewals are approved upon submission. There is a renewal grace period, which runs for a few weeks starting July 1st.

Kansas registrations apply fees based on the number of products included in a label registration. Item numbers are assigned to each unique product. The state uses Product Codes to mean the unique IDs assigned to each approved label (typically called approval numbers).
Kansas registrations replace a previous version of an approved product. The licensee is required to include an item number on each registration. When approved, the new revision replaces the old registration using the same item number.
