Rejected registrations and refunds

Learn about rejected registrations and how to request a refund.

If a registration has been rejected by the state, it will need to be re-submitted. Typically, the state will leave a comment specifying what information was missing or needs to be fixed. You may then begin a new registration with the corrected information.

When a registration is rejected by the state, usually, all fees are automatically refunded back to your credit card. There are some exceptions to this rule:

  • New Yorklaw requires that they keep 25% of the state fee, but all tech fees are refunded.
  • Ohio requires all refunds to be requested from the state. Visit Ohio's PRO guide for more information. It'll usually take around 6 weeks for the state to process a refund.
  • Registrations that have been approved, then revoked, will not be refunded.

Requesting a refund if you've been charged incorrectly

For any state other than Ohio, email PROSupport@sovos.com, and include the following information:

  • State the registration is for, and corresponding state license number
  • Registration approval number or other details of what you were trying to register
  • Date/date range of contested charge
  • Refund amount requested
  • Company name
  • Name on card/account
  • Last 4 digits of card/account

Ohio requires all refunds to be requested from the state. Visit Ohio's PRO guide for more information.
