Return stages

Learn about the five stages that a return goes through during the filing process.

Every return moves through five workflow stages as tax data is added, edited, checked for accuracy, and then filed. After your tax data has been uploaded, you can start moving the return through the workflow stages. In most cases, you can also roll returns back to previous stages.

Ready

All returns begin in the Ready stage. At this stage, the data you uploaded has not yet been assigned to the return. To populate the return with data, advance the return to the Adjust stage.

Adjust

The return form is now populated with the tax data available in Sales Tax Filing and the return amounts have been calculated. At this stage, you can:

After you finish editing the return data, advance the return to the Review stage.

Note:

If you roll the return back to the Ready stage, all data assigned to the return will be removed and any edits made will be lost. Advancing the return from Ready to Adjust again will assign the data back to the return.

Review

Use this stage to review the return and make sure it is ready to file. The return can't be edited in this stage, so if you need to make changes, roll the return back to the Adjust stage to edit it.

If you have reviewed the return and agree with its content, advance it to the File & Pay stage.

CAUTION:

Advancing the return to File & Pay is final. Make sure the return is correct before you advance it, as you will not be able to roll it back to a previous stage to edit it.

File & Pay

In this stage, the return is ready to be filed and paid.

After you have filed the return and paid any amounts owed, advance the return to the Complete stage.

Complete

The return has been filed and paid, and the filing process is finished.

If you notice a mistake in a return that has already been filed, you can amend the return.
