About correcting forms

Learn when and how you can correct forms after an order is sent to the IRS/SSA, including using delayed processing options.

After an order is sent to the IRS/SSA for filing, you can't modify or correct the forms in that order until the IRS/SSA finish processing the files. If you've already placed your order, wait for an email notification confirming whether the IRS/SSA accepted or rejected it.

During the checkout process, you can use eFileMyForms' delayed processing options and schedule the filing for a selected future date. Between placing an order and the delayed processing date, you can edit the forms in your order.
Note:

Read the article about resubmitting rejected forms to learn how to edit and resubmit forms rejected by the IRS.

What to do if you get a new 1099-DIV form in 2024

When you receive a new 1099-DIV form, the next steps depend on how you originally filed your forms.

If you receive a new, second 1099-DIV form for tax year 2024, it means the information on Copy 2 (bottom) was correct but wasn't included in the Copy B (top).

This new form now includes the missing information in Copy B (top), which was previously only shown on Copy 2 (bottom).

Action to take

  • If you filed electronically and entered the information found on Copy 2 (bottom), no action is needed.

  • If you filed by mail or included a physical version of Copy B (top) with blank boxes, you may need to resubmit this amended form to match what was filed with the IRS by the issuer.

Tip: Save this 1099-DIV form and consult with a tax advisor if you need help.
