Filing

Amended returns

This task details amended returns and how amendments or supplements are necessary after submitting a return.

VAT Filing simplifies the process of editing or replacing a return in accordance with tax authority guidelines, allowing for amendments (changes to a filing) or supplements (additional information to a filing) where permitted, ensuring compliance and accuracy.

Amendment
After a return has been filed, Sovos copies the original and creates a new version that you can edit. The original is then stored for reference.  The original return for an amended filing is labeled as canceled, while the amended one is labeled as amended.
Supplement
When additional information or files are needed, Sovos creates a new version of the file for editing, allowing additional files to be included while keeping the original. The original return for a supplementary filing is labeled as original and remains a valid return, while the additional one is labeled as supplementary.
Note:

Continuous Transaction Controls (CTC) countries do not allow data manipulation after it has been reported to the tax authority, which is at the time of the transaction. VAT Filing hides these features when unavailable, ensuring that your team works within the compliance requirements of each country.
