Use the Data Comparison module to compare SCI fields across countries, document types, and versions to identify regional variations and assess their impact on your implementation.
Use the Data Comparison module when you need to understand how SCI field requirements differ between countries — for example, to identify where conditions or data types vary across regions, or to assess the implementation impact of supporting multiple markets. You can run comparisons directly in the portal without contacting a Sovos representative.
- In the left navigation menu, click Data Comparison.
The Data Comparison page opens with a filter bar at the top.
- Select at least one country and one document type to load results.
The available filters are:
-
Country — Select one or more countries to compare. Required to populate results.
-
Doc Type — Select the document type. Required to populate results.
-
Version — Select the local format version.
Active filter selections appear as tags at the top of the page. The main document type for each selected country is included automatically. To start a new comparison, click Clear all filters.
- Click a block header to expand it and compare fields side by side.
Results are grouped into collapsible blocks. Each block represents a logical group of SCI fields shared across the selected countries. The page summary shows the total number of blocks and items returned.
Each field entry in an expanded block displays the following information for each country:
- SCI Path
- The field path in the SCI format.
- Country and Document
- The country and document type associated with the field entry.
- Condition
- Whether the field is mandatory or optional for that country.
- Local Path
- The corresponding field path in the local legal format.
- Description
- A description of the field in the local format.
- Data Type
- The expected data type for the field.
- Local Notes
- Country-specific notes about the field.
- Local Remark
- Additional notes about the local requirement.
To collapse a block, click the collapse icon on the block header.
Tip: Pay close attention to differences in Condition and Data Type between countries. A field that is optional in one country may be mandatory in another. These differences are the primary indicators of regional variation and should inform how you scope and prioritize your implementation work.
- Optional: To download the comparison data, click Export.
The export includes all comparison data currently displayed, reflecting your active filters.
