Tax Determination

Add or edit a nexus

Learn how to add or edit a nexus for a jurisdiction.

Note:

If you don't know where you have nexus, read Nexus and registration statuses.

  1. Log in to Tax Determination and go to Settings > Nexus and Registrations.
  2. If the jurisdiction is outside of the United States, select the country from the dropdown.
A list of jurisdictions in that country is displayed.
  3. Find the jurisdiction where you have nexus.
    • If the jurisdiction is an independent local jurisdiction, click Locals. A side panel with a list of local jurisdictions opens. Find the independent jurisdiction in the list.
    • Otherwise, continue to the next step.
  4. Select the registration status from the dropdown.
    Note:

Some jurisdictions are set to always inherit the nexus of the jurisdiction above them. For example, a local jurisdiction may have the same nexus as the state. These jurisdictions are grayed out and can't be selected or edited.

  5. If the jurisdiction is outside of the United States, click + Add Number and enter the registration number, then click Enter.
In US jurisdictions, registration numbers are not required for correct tax calculation, but you can enter one for recordkeeping or reporting purposes.
  6. When you are finished, click Save Changes.
