Certain products and services can be exempt based on the tax laws in a given taxing jurisdiction. If you map your products and services to the appropriate Good/Service Codes in Tax Determination, you will get accurate tax results that include all valid exemptions. Some customers may also be exempt if they have an exemption certificate in a taxing jurisdiction. If your customer is exempt, first create them in Tax Determination and add their exemption, then follow the instructions in How to create a standard sales order.
