Create an account

Follow these steps to create an account.

  1. Go to the Tax Information Reporting website.
  2. Choose a plan and click Start Free Trial. Then go through the checkout process.
  3. Look for an invitation email from noreply@sovos.com in your inbox. Click Get Started in the email and log in.
  4. Enter the following information about the payer:
You must add at least one payer to be able to file.
    1. Required: Payer name: Enter the legal name of the payer, up to 40 characters.
Use the Name 2 field if the payer's name is over 40 characters.
    2. Required: TIN: Enter the nine-digit number assigned by the IRS to identify the payer, with no dashes.
      For example, 123456789.
    3. TIN type: Select the payer's type of Taxpayer Identifier Number (TIN) from the dropdown.
The most common TIN type for a payer is an Employer Identification Number (EIN).
    4. Use TIN as this payer's unique Payer ID: We recommend leaving this selected.
The Payer ID field must be a unique value for each payer and is used to link payers to forms.
    5. Payer address: Fill out the payer's address fields.
    6. If the payer issues 1042-S forms or does 1042 withholding, select it and fill out the fields.
    7. If the payer issues 1099-K forms, select it and select a payer type from the dropdown.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Select a state from the dropdown, then enter the state ID in the field.

A state ID is a string of letters and numbers assigned by a state to identify the payer, for example, 1234567 or 1234567890ABC. States might assign an ID to a payer if they have previously reported to them.

Some states call their state ID a company number or withholding account number. If you have reported to a state before but don't know your state ID, contact the state. Learn more about state-specific filing requirements and deadlines.

  7. Click Add another state to add more states and state IDs.
  8. Click Save.
