Import data with a Text file

Import multiple payers, recipients, and forms in a single Text file to make the data available for printing and transmitting.

  1. Go to Payers, Recipients, or Forms on the side menu and click Import.
  2. Select to Use IRS FIRE format (Pub 1220).
  3. Select the type of data you want to import: payers, recipients, or forms.
    You can import any combination of these.
    1. If you select forms, you must also select at least one form type.
      You can import multiple form types at once.The data type options are highlighted.
    2. Use the Tax year dropdown to select the tax year layout that your 1220 import file follows.
      The IRS changes the 1220 format every tax year, so you must select which tax year format your import file follows to import it correctly.
    3. If you are importing recipients or forms, select how you want your data to be grouped in the Advanced import options section.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Upload your import file, then click Next.
    • To upload an import file from your computer, drag the file into the box or click Browse to select it.
    • To select an import file that was previously uploaded on the File Manager page, click Select an existing file and choose it from the list.
  6. Click Import.
    Important: Make sure the import button shows the correct environment and tax year.
    The Import button is highlighted.
  7. If you are importing certain form types, a bulk TIN matching pop-up appears.
    • Click Yes if you want to submit the data you are importing to the IRS Bulk TIN Matching program.
    • Click No if you do not want to submit them. Your data will still be imported.
