TaxID checks
TrustWeaver provides a tax identifier validation service that checks whether a tax identifier belongs to a valid registered legal entity, using external checking systems appropriate for the target country.
The TaxId check service verifies tax identifiers against national or regional tax authority registers. The service is implemented as the TaxIdCheck method on the Storage Service and supports specific checking systems, each targeting a specific country or region.
Supported checking systems
The TaxIdCheckTargetSystem parameter identifies which external checking system to query. The following systems are supported:
-
PolishTaxIDCheck -
Validates Polish tax identifiers (NIP) and bank account pairs against the Polish Allow List (Biała Lista), maintained and published by the Polish Tax Administration (KAS). Used by buyers in Poland to confirm that supplier bank accounts are registered before making payments over PLN 15,000. See Polish TaxId check.
-
IndiaGSTIN -
Validates Indian Goods and Services Tax Identification Numbers (GSTINs) against the IRP (Invoice Registry Portal) database. Used by taxable persons subject to the Indian GST clearance regime to verify supplier GSTINs and e-waybill eligibility before invoice submission. See Indian GSTIN check.
-
VATInformationExchangeSystem -
Validates VAT identification numbers for EU member states using the VAT Information Exchange System (VIES) service. Used by suppliers performing intra-EU or cross-border supplies to confirm buyer VAT registration status. See VIES and UK TaxId check.
TaxIdCheckTargetSystem is omitted from the request, TrustWeaver determines the checking system from the RequestTarget.CountryCode parameter.
Archiving check evidence
Sovos recommends archiving the evidence of TaxId checks (such as consultation numbers and publication dates) to support audit and compliance processes. The TrustWeaver archiving service is not enabled by default for tax ID check evidence and must be contracted separately. For more information, contact the Sovos team.
