About Indirect Tax API Integration

Use the Indirect Tax API Integration module to send documents and retrieve notifications using the Sovos Indirect Tax API Documents and Notifications endpoints.

The API integration module lets you run real integration tests against Sovos Indirect Tax API directly from the portal. Use it to send documents encoded in base64 using the documents endpoint, and to retrieve document status and responses using the notifications endpoint.

You need a valid Sovos API key and API secret to use this module. Both are required to generate an authentication token before sending documents or querying notifications.

  1. Enter your Sovos API key in the Client ID field and your Sovos API secret in the Client secret field, then click Get token.

A green confirmation message appears when the token is ready, showing the expiry time, for example:

✓ Token ready for API calls — The token expires at 4/5/2026, 12:07:25 p.m.

Tokens are valid for one hour. You must generate a new token if it expires before you finish your testing session. The token is required for both the Send Document and Notifications workflows.

  2. Click Upload file and select the document you want to send.

The portal automatically encodes the uploaded document in base64 and prepares it for submission.

  3. Click Submit to COAPI.

The document is sent to Indirect Tax API for processing. The response appears in the Send Document Response section. Click Copy to copy the response.

  4. Click Notifications.

A list of document IDs from documents sent in the current session appears for reference.

  5. Select a document ID from the list or enter a document ID or customer tax ID manually, then click Submit to COAPI.

You can query notifications using either a document ID or a customer tax ID.

  6. Review the notification results in the Result section.

Click Copy to copy the results.
