Add a payer type

Payers with 1042-S forms must have a payer type selected before the forms can be transmitted. Follow these steps to learn how.

  1. On the Payers page, use the quick filters or search to find the payer, then click the payer's row.
  2. Click the Payer type field, then select a payer type from the dropdown.

    Withholding
    The person or entity who pays income to taxpayers and withholds tax from that income. This is the most common payer type for 1042-S reporting.
    Payment Settlement Entity (PSE)
    Entities that facilitate payments made through card transactions (credit cards or debit cards, for example) or third-party network transactions (PayPal, Venmo, or Amazon, for example) on behalf of merchants.
    Employees' Provident Fund (EPF)
    Employers who are responsible for making EPF contributions on an employee's behalf.
    Third Party Payer (TPP)
    Insurance companies who provide coverage for patient's heath-related expenses, such as Blue Cross/Blue Shield, UnitedHealth Group, or Medicaid.
  3. Click Save.
