Environments and tax years
Learn about tax years and the difference between the test and production environments, how to add a new one, and how to change between them.
When you log in, the environment and tax year default to the ones you were last working in, but you can switch to another environment and tax year.
- Environment
-
- TEST
- The test environment is generally used to check if everything is accurate before importing your data into production. You can test if any of your data will be rejected or has errors.
- PROD
- The production environment is used to import your data, print, and transmit the final forms.
The test and production environments work independently from each other. What you do in the test environment won't change anything in the production environment, and the same goes the other way around. Plus, any changes you make in a specific tax year won't affect the data in other environments or tax years.
- Tax year
