Add a single payer

Add a payer to link recipients and forms to and make the data available for printing and transmitting.

  1. On the Payers page, click Add a payer.
  2. Click into the fields to enter values.

The fields marked with a red * are required.

You can enter any unique value in the Payer ID field. TINs are often used as payer IDs. The value in the Payer ID field must match the value in the PTIN form field.

The two most common types of Tax Identification Numbers (TINs) are Employer Identification Numbers (EINs) and Social Security Numbers (SSNs). If you know the TIN type of the payer, select it from the TIN type dropdown.

    Tip:

Read about the name formatting requirements for the IRS's new IRIS filing system.

States may assign an ID to a payer if they have previously reported to them. Some states call their state ID a company number or withholding account number. If you have reported to a state before but don't know your state ID, contact the state.
