Adding and converting exemptions

You can add an exemption or convert a certificate into an exemption.

There are several ways to add exemptions in CertManager:

If you try to add an exemption with the same customer, state, and reason for exemption as an exemption that already exists in CertManager, you will get an error saying that the exemption is a duplicate. To renew an exemption certificate, go to the Exemptions page in CertManager and find the exemption, then update it with the new certificate.

CAUTION:

Once a complete exemption has been saved, it can't be deleted from CertManager and the customer, reason for exemption, and state fields can't be edited. The customer number can't be edited after at least one exemption has been associated with it. If you marked a parent's exemption as inherited, this can't be undone either.

Add a single exemption

Learn how to add an exemption with or without a certificate.

  1. On the Exemptions page, click Add.
  2. Fill in the required fields.
  3. Fill in the optional fields as needed.
  4. Optional: To add a certificate to this exemption, click Add Image.
    • To add a certificate that is already in CertManager, select the certificate from the Uploaded Images list.

    • To add a new certificate, click the New Image tab, then drag and drop the certificate into the box or click Browse and select the certificate from your computer. Click Add Image to add the certificate to the exemption or Clear Image to select a different file.

Convert a certificate into an exemption

  3. Fill in the optional fields as needed.
  4. Click Convert.
The exemption will appear on the Exemptions page.

Add multiple exemptions with the bulk exemption upload template

Learn how to add exemptions in bulk using the template provided in CertManager.

  1. On the Exemptions page, click Upload.
  2. Select Adding new exemptions, then click Next.
  3. Click Download template to download the bulk exemption upload template (exemption-template.xlsx).
    Important:

CertManager 13.5 has a new bulk exemption upload template to support exemptions without certificate images. You must use this new template to bulk upload exemptions as previous versions of the template will not work.

  4. Open the file and follow the instructions in the template to enter your exemption information, then save your changes.
  5. In CertManager, drag and drop the updated template into the box or click Browse and select the updated template from your computer, then click Upload.
To see the file upload progress, go to the Uploads and Downloads page, where you can see the statuses of your uploads for the last seven days.
When the file has been uploaded, its status will be Complete on the Uploads and Downloads page and you can view the exemption on the Exemptions page.
If there is an error in your file, an error file will be available for download. In this case, check what caused the error, and when you have made the necessary changes, try uploading the file again. Delete the Error column if you are uploading the edited error file.
